News Andrew Lippa, Amanda Green, Juliana Nash and More Will Take Part in Added Events at 2013 NYMF The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF), which will run July 8-28, has announced additional concerts, educational workshops and a "Musicals on Television" screening series in partnership with the Paley Center for Media.

In addition, the Festival announced free events to take place on the NYMF Hub Stage, in the lobby of The Pershing Square Signature Center. These free events include talkbacks with artists from Festival productions, panel discussions on topics relating to careers in the theatre and live music performances.

EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOP SERIES:

NYMF Songwriting Workshop in association with ASCAP
July 22, 24, 25 and 26, 9 AM-noon (participants attend all sessions)
The Studio Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center
"Anna K. Jacobs (POP!, Harmony, Kansas) leads this weeklong introductory workshop on writing songs for musical theatre, open to individual composers and lyricists (who will be paired) as well as pre-existing songwriting teams. Participants will develop and write a song over the course of the week, culminating in the opportunity to perform their work and receive feedback from Tony-nominated composer-lyricist Andrew Lippa (The Addams Family, The Wild Party)." The Studio Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center
"Work out your musical theatre audition material with guidance from NYMF's resident casting director! Michael Cassara will hear your best audition song and work with you from his unique vantage point 'behind the table.' Class will include a Q&A, a discussion of the 'Business of the Business,' and insider information on how to get involved with NYMF and beyond."

In this class/performance/Q&A by award-winning librettist, screenwriter and NYMF alumnus Sammy Buck, learn how classic screenplay structure from a variety of movies translates into memorable characters, song moments and stories of musical theatre greats — old, new and yet-to-be. (This seminar is not affiliated with or endorsed by Lucasfilms, The Walt Disney Company or the Galactic Empire.)"

"NYMF's Student Leadership Program (SLP) presents Mint'd: an evening devoted to newly-minted musical theatre student composers and performers. In the middle of the summer heat, Mint'd is the place to be to experience the fusion of voices by students from across the world! Join us for either Series A, Series B, or both, as we bring to you a new take on the future of the genre!"

The Music Box: A Celebration of Female Composers

"In 1920, they got to vote. In 2013, they got to write musicals. Come join us as we celebrate lady composers from all career stages in a one-night-only concert event. Up-and-coming composers Josh Freilich and Nikko Benson share an evening of new, irreverent tunes fresh from the inaugural All-Star Songwriters series as seen at William Finn's Cabaret at Barrington Stage Company."

MUSICALS ON TELEVISION SERIES:

As part of NYMF 2013, the Paley Center pays tribute to Broadway composer and lyricist Richard Adler (who died last year at the age of 90) and screens a television special from 1968 – "Kiss Me, Kate," with Robert Goulet – and the 1955 TV musical "Our Town," with Frank Sinatra. All screenings are at the Paley Center for Media (25 West 52nd Street). Visit PaleyCenter.org.
