News Andrew McCarthy to Star in McCarter Theatre’s Moon for the Misbegotten Andrew McCarthy, who was recently seen Off-Broadway in Fat Pig and who is best known for his work in such films as "St. Elmo's Fire" and "Pretty in Pink,” will play James Tyrone, Jr. in the McCarter Theatre’s upcoming production of A Moon for the Misbegotten.

Garry Griffin, currently represented on Broadway with the new musical The Color Purple, will direct the production, which is set to begin previews Jan. 13, 2006, at the New Jersey venue. The official opening night is scheduled for Jan. 20, and the limited engagement will play through Feb. 19. Joining McCarthy onstage in the Eugene O’Neill opus will be Kathleen McNenny as Josie and Jack Willis as Phil Hogan with Jeremiah Wiggins and Peter Scanavino.

A Moon for the Misbegotten, according to press notes, is O’Neill's comic drama about “love, heartbreak, guilt and redemption. . . . Three unforgettable characters do battle with the deepest yearnings of the human heart over the course of a single whiskey-soaked moonlit night.”

On Broadway Andrew McCarthy was seen in Side Man and Off-Broadway in Fat Pig. His regional credits include roles in Long Day’s Journey Into Night and The Glass Menagerie. McCarthy’s screen credits include “Pretty in Pink,” “St. Elmo’s Fire,” “Mannequin,” “Weekend at Bernie’s” and the TV drama “Kingdom Hospital.”

A Moon for the Misbegotten will play Tuesday-Thursday evenings at 7:30 PM, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM with matinees Saturdays at 3 PM and Sundays at 2 PM. Tickets are now on sale by calling (609) 258-2787 or by visiting www.mccarter.org.
