Broadway actor and Tony nominee Andrew Rannells visited Late Night with Seth Meyers April 5. While Rannells has been frequenting the late-night circuit to discuss his role on Girls (and his recent musical performance on the series), Rannells spoke to host Seth Meyers about the recorded performance of the fall 2016 revival of Falsettos.
Rannells played Whizzer in the production, opposite two-time Tony winner Christian Borle. The show was recorded by Live at Lincoln Center on January 3 and 4, 2017, with a broadcast date on PBS to be announced.
“That’s how I sort of discovered Broadway as a kid in Nebraska,” said Rannells of PBS’ Great Performances series. “Turning on PBS and getting to see these filmed broadcasts of Broadway shows was how I learned about musical theatre.
“Now PBS is in some peril of losing a lot of funding,” he continued. “So we have this thing in the can [Falsettos] ... and it hopefully will air, but I am nervous for future gay children of America may not be able to experience the Broadway show that I did—not just the gay children, all of the children.”
A broadcast date for Falsettos has yet to be announced.
