Andy Samberg, the "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" star who got his start writing "SNL Digital Shorts" on Saturday Night Live, is headed to the big screen with a parody of the pop music world.
The comedy with music, created by his comedy troupe, The Lonely Island for Universal Pictures, has acquired the intentionally convoluted title, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. Starring Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer (who will also direct), the film is due out June 3, 2016.
Deadline.com reported that the plot casts Samberg as a rapper "whose album bombs and leaves him with little career choice other than to re-form his old boy band."
Judd Apatow is producing.
