Classic Arts News Angela Gheorghiu to Substitute as Violetta for One Met Performance in March The Metropolitan Opera has announced that Angela Gheorghiu will appear as Verdi's most famous heroine, Violetta Val_ry in La traviata, for one performance only this spring — on the night of Saturday, March 24. She will be filling in for Krassimira Stoyanova.
The previous evening, Gheorghiu will be the featured artist in a special gala benefit concert for the Concert Association of Florida in the Knight Concert Hall at the Carnival Center in Miami.
[EDITOR'S NOTE: This Miami concert was subsequently rescheduled for 2008.]

Gheorghiu will be appearing at the Met next month and in early March in another role, singing Amelia in four performances of Verdi's Simon Boccanegra opposite Thomas Hampson (taking the title role for the first time at the house), Marcello Giordani and Ferruccio Furlanetto.
