News Angela Grovey, NaTasha Yvette Williams, Sean Patrick Murtagh Set for Readings of Sugar Hill Sisters The New York Musical Theatre Festival Developmental Reading Series will present readings of The Sugar Hill Sisters July 20 at noon and 3:30 PM and July 22 at 7 PM at The 45th Street Theater - Upstairs.

The readings will feature the talents of Angela Grovey (Leap of Faith), NaTasha Yvette Williams (Porgy and Bess, The Color Purple), Justin Patterson (Memphis, A Little Night Music), Charl Brown (Sister Act) and Sean Patrick Murtagh (A Man of No Importance).

Jade King Carroll will direct with music direction by GLAAD Award nominee Dionne McClain-Freeney. Kasey Ostopchuck will be stage managing.

The Sugar Hill Sisters is a new musical with book and lyrics by the Lambda and Stonewall Award-winning Bil Wright and music by Joseph-Vernon Banks.

In The Sugar Hill Sisters, press notes state, "it is 1960 and The Curtis Sisters, Rena and Jeannette, are featured singers at Stuart Rose's Downtown Club, but when they go back home uptown to Harlem, they live in fear of their alcoholic father. Jeannette runs away to the South to fight for Civil Rights, leaving Rena, and never looks back. Years later, Rena sends for Jeannette to try to repair the damage, hoping they can do it before time runs out."
