Tony winner Anika Noni Rose is set to star as former boxer and trainer Ann Wolfe in the pilot for Beast Mode. The new show from TNT is inspired by the life of the legendary fighter, who once held world titles in three different weight classes simultaneously.
Beast Mode is written and executive produced by David Schneiderman with executive producers Stefanie Huie, Charles D. King, Kim Roth, and Poppy Hanks. Rose will also serve as a co-executive producer, and Tina Mabry (Pose) is attached to direct.
Rose most recently appeared onstage in Classic Stage Company’s Carmen Jones. She made her Broadway debut in 1998 in Footloose and won a Tony Award for her performance in 2004’s Caroline, or Change. In 2008, she came back to Broadway in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and later earned her second Tony nomination for A Raisin in the Sun.
She recently wrapped filming on Body Cam and was last seen in the movie Assassination Nation. She starred alongside Jennifer Hudson and Beyoncé in the film adaptation of Dreamgirls, has appeared on Power, led the TV series The Quad, and is known for voicing Princess Tiana in Disney’s The Princess and the Frog (she brings the character back to life in Ralph Breaks the Internet).
