News Ankrim Will Star in Gypsy King World Premiere at the Village Casting has been announced for the world-premiere of Emmy winner Randy Rogel's musical The Gypsy King, which will begin performances March 7 at the Village Theatre in Issaquah, WA.

The Washington State theatre, which gave life to the Tony-winning musical Next to Normal, presents the premiere production that will be directed by Richard Gray and will feature choreography by Kathryn Van Meter. Rogel penned book, music and lyrics for the musical that he co-conceived with Kirby Ward.

The Gypsy King principal cast will feature Eric Ankrim in the dual lead roles of Prince Alphonse and Frederick, with John Patrick Lowrie as Leo, Katherine Strohmaier as Anisette, Cayman Ilika as Anastasia, Nick DeSantis as Godfried and Jose J. Gonzales as Prince Dijon.

According to press notes, "Leo and Frederick are a father-son acting duo whose unfortunate run-in with the royal guard causes quite the royal ruckus. Bearing a curious resemblance to the arrogant Prince Alfonse, Frederick finds himself in a dangerous position. Laugh riotously as you follow his adventures into the middle of an assassination plot that takes him through a maze of castle doors, to the bottom of a moat, and beyond. With a classic vaudeville feel, this new musical romp will cause quite a stir with its fast-paced comedic action."

The production will have scenic design by Jeffrey Cook, music direction by R.J. Tancioco, orchestrations by Bruce Monroe, lighting design by Alex Berry and costume design by Karen Ledger.

The Gypsy King was presented as part of the Village Theatre’s New Works Festival in 2008 and in a 2009 developmental production. Following the Issaquah run, the musical will play Everett, WA, April 30-May 23.
