Singer Ann Hampton Callaway celebrates movie songs and Broadway showtunes that became jazz standards for the late master jazz vocalist Ella Fitzgerald in her concert show, The Ella Century, which she will perform at the City Winery in Chicago August 3.

Callaway, who earned a Tony Award nomination for her performance in the 1999 Broadway musical Swing!, told Playbill that she has assembled “an exciting show of songs from Broadway [and film] that come to life through the language of jazz” including “fresh takes on classics” by Gershwin, Ellington, Rodgers, Porter, Styne, Sondheim, and others.

The concert, which is timed to the centenary year of Fitzgerald’s birth, includes “How High the Moon,” “Mr. Paganini,” and “Every Time We Say Goodbye.” Callaway will be accompanied by pianist Reggie Thomas.

Tickets to the 7 PM concert cost $25–$40, and can be ordered by clicking here. The City Winery is located at 1200 West Randolph Street in Chicago.
