Performances of the Barefoot Theatre Company production begin Oct. 27 at the Sargeant Theater, in the American Theatre of Actors at 314 W. 54th St. The play takes place on New York's upper Broadway at an all-night coffee shop, a hangout for dealers, prostitutes and other creatures of the night. An early work by Wilson, it boasts more than a dozen speaking roles. The show was given a legendary revival Off-Broadway by the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 1984. John Malkovich directed a cast which included Glenne Headly, Terry Kinney, Stephen Bauer, Francis Guinan, S. Epatha Merkerson, Laurie Metcalf, Gary Sinise and Lynne Thigpen.

Nightengale was the assistant director of that landmark production. He is currently artistic director for the 78th Street Theatre Lab.

Chlumsky began her career at 10 months as a model. She later acted in Annie at the Pheasant Run Dinner Theater in Chicago. Following a bit part in "Uncle Buck," she rose to fame as Vada Sultenfuss, playing opposite Macauley Culkin in "My Girl." She acted in Half Life Off-Broadway in August.

The rest of the cast includes Victoria Malvagano, Diego Ajuz, Jeremy Brena, Louis Reyes Cardenas, Sabrina C. Cataudella, John Gazzale, Trey Gibbons, Jerzy Gwiazdowski, Elizabeth June, Jeff Keilhotz, David Lamberton, Luke Leonard, Michael LoPorto, Ruben Luque, Victoria Malvagano, Diane Mashburn, Joe B. McCarthy, Chiara Montalto, Roderick Nash (who was in the original production of Balm in Gilead), Luca Pierucci, Francisco Solorzano, Jennie West, and Christopher Whalen.
