Actress Anne Heche, suffering from a respiratory infection, is expected to return to Broadway's Proof Friday July 5 for the evening show. She will not be in the July 5 matinee.
Her understudy, Caroline Bootle, went on for the Wednesday matinee and played all missed performances.
The second replacement cast of the Tony-winning production only just began July 2 under the direction of Daniel Sullivan. Heche is the marquee name actress who plays the emotionally anguished Catherine, the daughter of a mentally ill math genius. In the Pulitzer Prize-winner by David Auburn, Catherine may or may not have inherited her father's gift — and sickness.
Heche was said to be under the weather in the days prior to the July 2 launch, and after her Tuesday performance sought the care of a doctor who told her to rest in order to recover from a respiratory ailment.
The new cast includes Len Cariou as father Robert, Neil Patrick Harris as suitor Hal and Kate Jennings Grant as concerned sister Claire.
