Who's the only genuine veteran of the late '70s, New York punk rock scene currently starring on Broadway? That would be Annie Golden, who, before The Full Monty, before On the Town and her other Broadway and Off-Broadway credits, before starring in the film version of "Hair," was the lead singer of the punk group The Shirts.
Golden returns to her roots on May 20 and June 10, when she plays at Joe's Pub, the cabaret space within The Public Theater in downtown Manhattan. The actress-singer has developed a storytelling song cycle with Peter Calandra, called Annie Golden's Velvet Prison.
Golden last performed Velvet Prison at Joe's Pub last August.
Golden's other stage credits include La Terresse at Manhattan Theatre Club and Assassins as Playwrights Horizons (as Squeaky Fromme).
Tickets are $20. Joe's Pub is located at (212) 539 8645. —By Robert Simonson
