Rules, deadlines and other details of the contest that will allow 1000 lucky Les Miserables fans to attend the 10th anniversary performance of the show on Broadway will be announced in mid January, according to productions spokesperson Colleen Hughes.
Playbill On-Line will carry details of the contest the moment they're made public.
The contest will be the producers' way of thanking "devoted fans" who have kept the show running all this time. Hughes said the contest would be national in scope, but said details are still being worked out. The musical by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg will mark its tenth anniversary March 12, 1997 at the Imperial Theatre.
Also as part of the celebration, director John Caird is bringing in the national touring company to play on Broadway for five weeks starting Jan. 26 while he is rehearsing a largely new Broadway company, which will begin "previews" March 3 and "open" on the anniversary night, March 12.
The current Broadway cast will give its last performance Jan. 26. The idea of using the anniversary to thank fans is similar to some proposed by Playbill On-Line members in a poll conducted in August. To read the poll, check Theatre News.
