The Fantasticks, the longest-running musical in the world, which celebrated its 38th anniversary May 3, will mark another milestone on Dec. 18. That date will see the tenacious tuner's 16,000th performance. The evergreen Tom Jones-Harvey Schmidt, Off-Broadway musical will play that day where it always does -- the 153-seat Sullivan Street Playhouse in New York's Greenwich Village. The Fantasticks opened in 1960 under the direction of Word Baker. The cast included Jerry Orbach as El Gallo, Rita Gardner as The Girl and Kenneth Nelson as The Boy.
