News   Anthony Rapp Stars in Off-Broadway Comedy Private Jokes, Public Places, Starting Oct. 24 Anthony Rapp (Rent) will headline the upcoming staging of Oren Safdie's Private Jokes, Public Places which inaugurates Theater at the Center for Architecture, starting October 24.

The new comedy about architecture made its world premiere in Los Angeles and played Off-Off-Broadway last season at La Mama ETC. The official opening is slated for Nov. 5 at the unique and apropos space, Theater at the Center for Architecture, located at 536 LaGuardia Place, in Greenwich Village. Rapp is best known for his turn in the original cast of Rent and also played on Broadway in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Other credits include Nicky Silver's Raised in Captivity and Larry Kramer's Destiny of Me as well as the films "A Beautiful Mind," "Road Trip" and "Dazed and Confused."

The cast includes original L.A. stars M.J. Kang and Geoffrey Wade (Translations) with Sebastian Roche (Salome). Maria Mileaf directs the work presented Off-Broadway by Steven Chaikelson, Brannon Wiles, Ergo Entertainment and Avram C. Freedberg.

In Private Jokes, Public Places, Safdie — son of renowned architect Moshe Safdie — takes a glimpse inside the modern world of architecture as a young Korean American student presents her thesis for a public swimming pool to an all-male, all-white jury of famous architects.

Safdie has also penned the film "You Can Thank Me Later," and the plays Jews & Jesus, Fiddler Sub-Terrain, Hyper-Allergenic, Broken Places, Laughing Dogs and La Compagnie.

Mileaf has directed the New York premieres of Lobster Alice (Playwrights Horizons), Hard Feelings (Women's Project) and Maid (Lincoln Center Festival).
