Anthony Wayne Gets Mighty Real Again for One Night Only Tonight | Playbill

News Anthony Wayne Gets Mighty Real Again for One Night Only Tonight Pippin and Priscilla Queen of the Desert star Anthony Wayne returns to the New York stage for a one-night-only presentation of Mighty Real: A Fabulous Sylvester Musical July 31 at the Gramercy Theatre.

Written by and starring Wayne, with direction by life partner Kendrell Bowman, Mighty Real: A Fabulous Sylvester Musical tells the story of the late Sylvester James, Jr., known throughout the U.S. as the "Queen of Disco." The show chronicles his life and career from his gospel choir roots to joining a drag troupe in San Francisco, to eventually launching his solo career and hit albums. Wayne and Bowman were inspired to create the musical after watching the "Unsung" documentary about the artist five years ago. Moved and fascinated, they were determined to bring the icon's story to the stage. The show played a return engagement in New York last September following sold-out runs in Manhattan, Miami and Washington, D.C. It was nominated for a 2015 Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best New Musical.

Mighty Real: A Fabulous Sylvester Musical is produced by AnthonyKen LLC and Sheryl Lee Ralph/The DIVA Foundation.

Tickets are priced $79.50-$99.50 and are now on sale via TicketMaster by calling (800) 745-3000  or online at FabulousSylvester. The Gramercy Theater is located at 127 East 23rd St., Manhattan.
