PlayBlog Antonio Banderas on "Nine" Film Theatre fans weren't the only ones surprised by Antonio Banderas being passed over for the lead role in Rob Marshall's film of the Broadway musical Nine: Banderas was also.

Banderas, of course, was Tony-nominated for his performance as filmmaker Guido Contini in the Tony-winning revival of the Maury Yeston-Peter Stone musical. Yet, when it came time to cast the film, Academy Award winner Javier Bardem landed the role. Bardem eventually withdrew, and the role was recast with Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis.

At a recent press conference, Banderas was asked about the "Nine" film: Listen to his good-natured reaction:

"Nine" opens in cinemas nationwide Nov. 25.
