News Arena Stage Reading Series Has New Plays by Cruz, Blessing, Ruhl and Hanrahan, March 18-21 Plays by Sarah Ruhl, Les Blessing, Peter Hanrahan and recent Pulitzer Prize winner Nilo Cruz will be heard in reading form at Arena Stage's new series, called "downstairs," March 18-21.

Molly Smith, artistic director of Arena, one of the nation's oldest major resident theatres, will direct Cruz's Huracán 8 PM March 19. The drama "illustrates how an impending hurricane forces a Latin American village to come to terms with its own dreams and desires."

Ruhl's Passion Play, Part 3 "is the story of a Vietnam veteran and betrayal, as he endeavors to maintain his sanity" in a "uniquely American take on the traditional Passion Play." Woolly Mammoth Theatre artistic director Howard Shalwitz directs 8 PM March 18.

Blessing's The Winning Streak asks the question, "Can America's favorite pastime bridge the gap between a father and son who meet for the first time after 30 years?" Wendy C. Goldberg directs 8 PM March 20.

Hanrahan's False Start "follows a doctor's attempts to reconcile with his wife, despite family and professional complications, in the perplexing tale set in the darkness of an Alaskan winter." Woolly Mammoth associate artistic director Tom Prewitt directs 8 PM March 21.
