Molly Smith, artistic director of Arena, one of the nation's oldest major resident theatres, will direct Cruz's The Beauty of the Father 8 PM March 19. The Mediterranean beach of Costa del Sol in Spain is the backdrop for an emotional reunion between a young woman mourning the death of her mother, and the father who abandoned her years earlier. (Cruz's Huracán was first mentioned for the slot, but was replaced by Beauty.) Ruhl's Passion Play, Part 3 "is the story of a Vietnam veteran and betrayal, as he endeavors to maintain his sanity" in a "uniquely American take on the traditional Passion Play." Woolly Mammoth Theatre artistic director Howard Shalwitz directs 8 PM March 18.
Blessing's The Winning Streak asks the question, "Can America's favorite pastime bridge the gap between a father and son who meet for the first time after 30 years?" Wendy C. Goldberg directs 8 PM March 20.
Hanrahan's False Start "follows a doctor's attempts to reconcile with his wife, despite family and professional complications, in the perplexing tale set in the darkness of an Alaskan winter." Woolly Mammoth associate artistic director Tom Prewitt directs 8 PM March 21.
