A letter from artistic director Molly Smith to season ticket holders indicates that the lineup will include Maurice Hines and the Manzari Brothers (John & Leo), of Arena's popular 2010 revival of Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Ladies, reuniting "for an exciting new musical." Hines choreographed and starred in Sophisticated Ladies, with the Manzari Brothers also performing. It is one of the highest-grossing shows in Arena's history.
Also expected in the coming season, according to the missive: "World premiere plays, including Pulitzer Prize winner Lawrence Wright's Camp David, centered on one of the most significant events of Jimmy Carter's presidency." Wright won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction for "The Looming Tower: Al Qaeda and the Road to 9/11."
Arena season ticket holders have the first chance at securing prime seats at the lowest possible ticket price by renewing their full subscriptions.
The full season announcement, including dates and additional details regarding these projects, will be made at a later date.
Coming up as part of the current 2012-13 season are productions of David Lindsay-Abaire's Good People; Mary Zimmerman's Metamorphoses; the world premiere of Tazewell Thompson's Mary T. & Lizzy K; Katori Hall's The Mountaintop; and Jon Robin Baitz's Other Desert Cities.
