News Arkansas Rep Names New Producing Artistic Director The associate artistic director of Minneapolis’ Guthrie makes a move.
John Miller-Stephany

Arkansas Repertory Theatre has found a replacement for Bob Hupp, who left the theatre this summer to take on the post of artistic director at Syracuse Stage.

In a mini game of musical artistic directors, John Miller-Stephany will move from the Guthrie Theater to take over for Hupp at the Little Rock-based theatre. Miller-Stephany served as artistic administrator and associate artistic director at the Guthrie from 1996 to 2015.

According to Arkansas Online, Miller-Stephany is excited for the variety of work and the size of his new home. “The Rep is great because it’s large enough to do really distinguished work, [and] small enough that there’s a family feeling to it,” he told the online publication.

The selection of Miller-Stephany ends the theatre’s eight-month search for Hupp’s replacement. The 2016-17 season has already been decided, so Miller-Stephany has time before programming of his own.
