This month, Arkansas Rep will become the Double Cupp Diner on Highway 57, during it's production of Pump Boys and Dinettes, described by one Connecticut reviewer as "a country music revue for city slickers," running at the theatre in Little Rock, Jan. 23-Feb. 16.
The musical revue features Southern songs sung by four fellows, "the Pump Boys," and the Cupp sisters who run the diner, "The Dinettes." The show was composed and conceived by the same troupe that developed the Off-Broadway hit Oil City Symphony; Deborah Monk, John Foley, Mark Hardwick, Cass Morgan, John Schimell, and Jim Wann. Pump Boys... received a successful run on Broadway, receiving a Tony Award nomination for Best Musical in 1982.
Following the Little Rock run of Pump Boys..., Arkansas Rep will tour the show to Jonesboro, AR, playing at the Forum, Feb 18-22; (501) 935-2726; and then to Dayton, Ohio where it will run at the Victoria Theatre Feb. 25-Mar. 9, (937) 228-3630.
Upcoming at Arkansas Rep Kushner's hit drama Angels in America; Part I opens Mar 7, Part II opens Mar 13. For tickets or more information about Arkansas Repertory Theatre, please refer to the regional listings on Playbill On-Line.
