News Arlene Kriv Hired as Public Theater's New Publicist Arlene Kriv has been named as the new director of communications of the Public Theater, effective July 15.

Kriv steps into the shoes of publicist Carol Fineman, well known as the Public's chief publicist for the past 17 years. Fineman worked under New York Shakespeare Festival founder Joseph Papp, then JoAnne Akalaitis and, finally, the entire tenure of George C. Wolfe. The shift comes as the Public is about to name a new producer to take the place of the departing Wolfe. Kriv comes from the publishing world, having worked as director of publicity and advertising at Harcourt Trade Publishers and, before that, at Basic Books, a member of the Perseus Books Group.  Most recently, she has been a publicity and marketing consultant for book publishers including Farrar, Straus & Giroux, Basic Books, and the Brookings Institution Press.

Kriv's responsibilities as director of communications will include oversight of the Public Theater website and the development of in-house publications.
