Davis McCallum (Sex Lives of Our Parents) will direct the drama that is the second part of a planned trilogy that began with Hudes' Pulitzer Prize finalist work, Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue. McCallum also staged the world premiere of Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue in 2006.

The cast will include Ray Anthony Thomas, Armando Riesco, Zabryna Guevara, Liza Colon-Zayas, Teresa Avia Lim, Matthew Boston and Demosthenes Chrysan.

Hartford Stage previously workshopped the play in 2009. Riesco was also part of that cast.

Here's how Water by the Spoonful is billed: "Somewhere in Philadelphia, Elliot has returned from Iraq and is struggling to find his place in the world again and put aside the demons that haunt him. Somewhere in a chat room, recovering addicts forge an unbreakable bond of support and love. The boundaries of love, family and community are stretched across, time, generations and cyberspace as birth families splinter and online families collide in this captivating new drama."

Michael Friedman (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) has penned an original score for the play, which will have set design by Neil Patel, costume design by Chloe Chapin, lighting design by Russell Champa and sound by Bray Poor.

Hudes received a 2008 Tony nomination for penning the book for the Tony-winning musical In the Heights. Her work also includes Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue (Pulitzer Prize finalist), Yemaya's Belly and The Adventures of Barrio Grrrl!
