News A.R.T./New York Awards Design Grants to Nine Theatres The Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York has awarded a total of $67,500 in grants to benefit the design budgets of nine theatres on behalf of the Edith Lutyens and Norman Bel Geddes Foundation.

Each grant goes to the design budget of an upcoming production at a New York City-based non-profit theatre that has an annual budget under $5 million.

The companies receiving grants are:

The Collapsable Giraffe — Tara Webb’s costume design in Pee Pee Maw Maw
Edge Theater Company — David Korins’ set design in Adam Rapp’s play Essential Self Defense, a co-production with Playwrights Horizons
Epic Theater Center — set and costume design for Widower’s Houses
Juggernaut Theatre Company —set, costume and technology design for Model
The Play Company — Takeshi Kata’s creation of a space for The Attic
Ripe Time — set, costume and lighting design for Betrothed
SITI Company — James Schuette’s set and costume design for Radio Macbeth
The Talking Band — Anna Kiraly’s set design for Found Space
Waterwell — Elizabeth Payne’s costume design for Othello

Fifty-four applicants applied for grants. The panel awarding the grants included John Collins (artistic director, Elevator Repair Service Theater), Regina Garcia (scenic designer), Brian MacDevitt (lighting designer), Ilona Somogyi (costume designer) and Darron L. West (sound designer). A.R.T./New York Chairman Emeritus Howard J. Aibel chaired the panel.

To date the foundation have given $220,000 to theatres and designers around New York City.
