The Nightingale and the Rose, Stefan Rudnicki's dramatization of some of Oscar Wilde's lesser-known short stories, will have its world premiere at Knightsbridge Theatre, Jan. 7, directed by Gabrielle de Cuir. The play includes an original score of six songs by Jeff Lass, but is not a musical. The show, at times spiritual, then erotic, is not for children.

Arte Johnson, known for his farcical performances on TV's "Laugh-In," portrays "God" in this production. The cast also includes Petrea Burchard, de Cuir, Danielle Jolie, Amanda Karr, Paul Mercier, Stephen Quadros and Don Schlossman. The producer is Joseph Stachura.

Rudnicki has directed two feature films and over 140 stage productions. He directed and produced the spoken word recording "The Children's Shakespeare," which received numerous awards. He has also published 16 books, including "Wilde--The Novel."

The Knightsbridge's current production of Othello has been extended through Jan. 30. The theatre is located at 35 S. Raymond Ave. in Old Pasadena. For tickets and information call (626) 440-0821.
