Known for her directorial work on Off-Broadway's 9 Parts of Desire and the Public Theater presentation of In Darfur, Settle succeeded Shakespeare on the Sound founding artistic director Ezra Barnes in 2009.

She established a partnership with Tony Award-winning Passing Strange creator Stew and his collaborator Heidi Rodewald, who helped give new musical shape to productions of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Othello, Much Ado About Nothing and Romeo & Juliet. She also created the Shakespeare on the Sound Apprentice Company.

Settle exits her role at Shakespeare on the Sound following the company's recent 17th annual summer season. Her successor has not been named.

"I have been absolutely delighted to bring a contemporary and fresh take on Shakespeare's classics to this thoughtful and engaged community," Settle said in a statement. "While it is time for me to move on, I look forward to seeing the work that this important company produces for many years to come."
