News Artistic Director Martin Platt Parts Ways With Olney Theatre Center; Search for Successor Begins Just six months after announcing programming for his first season as the new artistic director of Olney Theatre Center in Olney, MD, Martin Platt has parted ways with the suburban Equity company that serves Baltimore and Washington. The company announced on Dec. 10 that he is "no longer serving as the artistic director of the Theatre."

A search for a new artistic director has begun. Olney Theatre Center plans to fill this position by early 2013. In the interim, Alan Wade will serve as artistic director.

Platt's previously reported 2013 season — including Spring Awakening, The Submission, Carnival!, Angel Street and more — will be retained, the theatre announced. "We are especially proud to present the exciting 2013 season that has been programmed," according to the company.

No other comment about the split was given, though Platt told Playbill.com that he will be returning to his New York City production company, Perry Street Theatricals, which is working on developing several projects for Broadway.

Wade began his association with Olney Theatre Center as a member of Olney Theatre Center's National Players touring company. He recently directed a production of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men at Olney Theatre Center. In addition to directing nine National Players company tours, he has appeared in many Olney Theatre Center productions, most recently Farragut North and Witness for the Prosecution.

He's a member of the board of directors of Olney Theatre Center and serves on the advisory boards of The Washington Stage Guild and The Potomac Theatre Project. *

The nonprofit Olney Theatre Center, celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2013, is located just north of Washington, DC, in Montgomery County, MD. Olney Theatre Center is situated on 14 acres in the heart of the Washington-Baltimore-Frederick "triangle," within easy access of all three cities. For more information, visit olneytheatre.org.
