Simpson, the 21-year-old sister of fellow recording artist Jessica, will take over from Linzi Hateley at the Cambridge Theatre on Sept. 25 for a five-week run, finishing Oct. 28.
The current production of Chicago opened at the Adelphi Theatre (currently hosting Evita) in 1997, winning the Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Production. The show moved to the Cambridge Theatre this past April.
Onstage Simpson will join Ian Kelsey as Billy Flynn, Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly and Julian Sims as Amos Hart.
Simpson followed in her sister’s footsteps with her debut album “Autobiography” and her single “Pieces of Me.” She made her own MTV series “The Ashlee Simpson Show” and was frequently seen in the TV comedy “Malcolm in the Middle.” Her new album “I Am Me” has just been released.
The John Kander (music) and Fred Ebb (lyrics) musical, with book by Ebb and Bob Fosse, is booking until April 14, 2007.
