Asmeret Ghebremichael, the American actor who has been seen in both the West End and Broadway productions of The Book of Mormon, has joined the London company of Dreamgirls at the Savoy Theatre in the role of Lorrell Robinson. The performer, whose Broadway credits also include Legally Blonde, Elf The Musical, Spamalot, and Wicked, began performances earlier this week.
Ghebremichael succeeds Ibinabo Jack, who withdrew from the production due to health reasons.
The acclaimed U.K. premiere of Dreamgirls has been nominated for five Olivier Awards and stars Glee actor Amber Riley as Effie White (with Marisha Wallace and Karen Mav also alternating in the role), Liisi LaFontaine as Deena Jones, Joe Aaron Reid as Curtis Taylor Jr., Adam J. Bernard as Jimmy Early, Tyrone Huntley as C.C. White, Nicholas Bailey as Marty, and Lily Frazer as Michelle Morris.
The original London cast recording of Dreamgirls will be released on Sony Masterworks Broadway mid-April and is available to pre-order now via Amazon.
