The 26th Annual Carbonell Award nominations, recognizing excellence in the South Florida theatre season of the last year, were announced Sept. 18, and Florida Stage and The Actors' Playhouse lead with 22 nominations each.

The Actors' Playhouse revival of the musical Evita was top among shows, with 12 nominations. The world premiere engagement of the musical At Wit's End, about the wits of the Algonquin Round Table, at The Florida Stage, earned 11 noms.

Nominations for South Florida's 2000-2001 theatre year (ended Labor Day) were announced by Christine Dolen, president of the South Florida Critics' Circle & Carbonell Awards, Inc. Winners will be announced at the 26th annual ceremonies on Monday, Nov. 19 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The program will be presented by the center, the South Florida Critics Circle and the Theatre League of South Florida.

The Actors' Playhouse revival of the musical Violet earned eight nominations. Among plays, The Laramie Project by the Caldwell Theatre Company in Boca Raton leads with seven nominations, followed by The Florida Stage's The Music Lesson with six.
