Serenbe Playhouse, which earned national attention for its ambitious outdoor stagings, has announced a new slate of programming that will bring theatre to indoor locations across Atlanta.

Buyer & Cellar and Art will be the first two site-specific, indoor productions to be mounted by the theatre company this year.

Nick Cearley, the stage actor who is also one-half of the musical duo The Skivvies, will perform Jonathan Tolins' one-man solo comedy Buyer & Cellar May 19-21 within the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams furniture showroom. The popular play, which Cearley has played across the country, centers on an out-of-work actor who lands a job working in Barbra Streisand’s basement.

Serenbe has also partnered with the non-profit arts institution Atlanta Contemporary to stage Yasmina Reza’s Tony Award-winning play Art. The limited slate of performances will take place September 8-11.

“Staying true to our mission of being site specific, we are bringing The Playhouse into the city,” said Brian Clowdus, Playhouse founder and artistic/executive director, in a statement. “Titles that would never make sense outside but still flourish in an intimate indoor setting is what this new series it all about. 75 percent of our audience resides in metro Atlanta, and we’re excited to bring what we do on an intimate scale into the City! We foresee this also tapping into a new audience demographic with strategic partners like Mitch Gold + Bob Williams and Atlanta Contemporary proving that theatre can happen anywhere and that it truly is for everyone.”

Serenbe is currently presenting Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel outdoors. The entire production is set within an actual working carnival.
