Kevin McCollum, Jeffrey Seller and Jill Furman produce the original work to be staged by Thomas Kail and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler. An opening is tentatively slated for February 2007. Exact dates and casting to be announced later.
Director Kail returns for the Off-Broadway run of the show — with a book by Quiara Alegria Hudes and a score by Lin Manuel Miranda — following a developmental run at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's 2005 Music Theater Conference.
In the Heights follows "two days in the life of Washington Heights, a vibrant immigrant neighborhood at the top of Manhattan," according to a show description. "From the vantage point of Usnavi's corner bodega, we experience the joys, heartbreaks and bonds of a Latino community struggling to redefine home." Previous materials noted the original musical featured a mix of hip-hop, salsa and merengue music.
The design team for In the Heights will include Anna Louizos (scenic), Paul Tazewell (costumes), Jason Lyons (lighting) and Acme Sound Partners (sound). The O'Neill cast included Natalie Cortez, Janet Dacal, Robin DeJesus, Huey Dunbar, Chris Jackson, Doreen Montalvo, Javier Munoz, Rick Negron, Sheena Marie Ortiz, Matt Saldivar, Monica Salazar and Nancy Ticotin.
