PlayBlog Attention Newsies Fans: Paper Mill Will Hold Fan Day, Featuring Original Movie Cast Members The cult classic film "Newsies," featuring music by Alan Menken, has been adapted for the stage and officially hits New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse Sept. 15, prior to an opening night set for Sept. 25.

The limited one-month engagement will play through Oct. 16, but before the newsboys pack away their caps and put down the papers, they will be joined at the Paper Mill by original movie cast members for a Newsies fan day Oct. 2.

Prior to the Sunday evening performance at 7 PM, Newsies fans will be able to participate in a Newsies fan reception at 5 PM in the Renee Foosaner Art Gallery on the campus of Paper Mill Playhouse. At 6 PM, cast members from the 1992 Disney movie-musical will come from all over the U.S. to join the current cast onstage at Paper Mill Playhouse for a cast talkback. Radio Disney will also be on campus for the festivities.

The 1992 Disney film of the same name starred Christian Bale as street-smart newsboy Jack Kelly, a role taken on by upcoming Bonnie and Clyde star Jeremy Jordan. Although the stage adaptation remains true to the film, Jordan recently told Playbill.com, "I'm not just copying somebody, and I'm not just taking somebody else's work and tweaking it. I'm creating something brand new…"

Jordan is joined by Tony Award nominee John Dossett as newspaper giant Joseph Pulitzer and Kara Lindsay as Katherine Plumber, a new character created for the stage.
