News Austin, Goodeve, Mac Rae and More Set for Anne of Green Gables Musical Complete casting has been announced for Theatreworks/USA's upcoming production of the Gretchen Cryer-Nancy Ford musical Anne of Green Gables.

Based on Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic novel, the production will begin previews at Off-Broadway's Lucille Lortel Theatre March 23 with an official opening March 29. The limited engagement — directed by Tyler Marchant — will run through May 5.

Anne of Green Gables features book and lyrics by Cryer and music by Ford. The cast comprises Bethe Austin (I Sent a Letter to My Love) as Marilla Cuthbert, Erick Devine (Seussical, Ragtime) as Matthew Cuthbert, Andrew Gehling (Hello, Dolly! at the Paper Mill) as Gilbert Blythe, Piper Goodeve (The Pursuit of Persephone) as Anne Shirley, Heather Mac Rae (Falsettos) as Rachel and Alison Walla (Fiddler on the Roof, revival) as Diana. Alison Faircloth and Michael Mendiola will be part of the ensemble.

The musical, according to press notes, "follows the journey of the wildly independent and adventurous red-haired orphan, Anne Shirley, who is mistakenly sent to Green Gables to live with an elderly bachelor and his spinster sister. Soon after her arrival, she quickly turns the entire community upside-down with her indomitable spirit and scope for imagination."

The creative team also includes Beowulf Boritt (scenic design), David Woolard (costume design), Clifton Taylor (lighting design), Eric Shim (sound design) and Dave Hab (orchestrations).

Tickets, priced $25, are available by calling (212) 279-4200 or by visiting www.ticketcentral.com. The performance schedule is Fridays at 7 PM, Saturdays at 2 and 7 PM and Sundays at 1 and 4 PM. The Lucille Lortel Theatre is located in Manhattan at 121 Christopher Street.
