The planned Oct. 25 Melbourne, Australia production of <|>Jekyll and Hyde collapsed this week when major investor Arts Capital withdrew its support leaving a $2.1 million shortfall.
Producer Stewart Macpherson issued a statement: "I have been producing shows for 22 years and have never experienced anything like this before. I feel deeply for the pain this has caused the cast and everyone involved."
Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance Victorian secretary Howard Manly said, "We estimate that a considerable amount of money is owed to our members." The Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance has called for the introduction of tighter measures to guarantee the wages of performers and other employees.
