Based on the life of Australian boxer Les Darcy, The Good Fight is not simply an Australian-inspired musical, the entire cast and creative team for the NYMF production hail from 'Down Under' with a cast of students from the highly regarded Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
The Australian-bred musical features a score by David King, with book and lyrics by Enright. Jenny Lynnd choreographs with lighting design by Glen Hunter and costumes by Alison Fraser, Bronwyn Mace and Lorraine Koh.
"Mothers and sons, a blood sport and a war: this potent material is the subject matter of this new Australian musical," according to press notes. "From the battlefields of World War 1 to the boxing rings and music hall stages of Australia and America, The Good Fight plots an epic journey of two young men. One a national icon, the other a mere soldier. They are caught between their personal beliefs and those of a war mongering government."
Featuring students from the music theatre department at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, The Good Fight cast includes Chrystal De Grussa, Gemma-Ashley Kaplan, Kathryn Sgroi, Suzanne Mathers, Stephanie Morrison, Vanessa Raspa, Matthew McFarlane, Bradley Carroll, Gareth Keegan, Keane Fletcher, Brent Dolahenty, Stuart Fisher, Elizabeth Styles, Lachlan Gillespie, Caleb Rixon, Zack Curran, Bernard Angel and Eliza Anderson. WAAPA program coordinator and resident director Crispin Taylor, will direct The Good Fight for NYMF.
