The film, which is based on true events, covers the last days of Anna and her American husband Jack Manahan, who kidnapped Anna after the courts forcibly placed her in a retirement home. The two evaded authorities throughout rural Virginia.
"Duchess" marks a reunion with Close and "The Chumscrubber" director Arie Posin and producers Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn, who teamed with Close for "Albert Nobbs." The film was written by Posin and Nicholas Kazan.
Close, an Emmy, Golden Globe and Tony Award winner and six-time Academy Award acting nominee, has performed onstage in Sunset Boulevard and The Real Thing. Some of her film credits include "Fatal Attraction" and "Dangerous Liaisons," and her TV credits include "Damages" and "The Shield."
