Emmy Award winner Rachel Axler's parental drama Smudge officially opens Off-Broadway at the Women's Project Jan. 11.

Pam MacKinnon stages the production that began previews Jan. 3 and will run through Feb. 7.

Cassie Beck (Prayer for My Enemy, Drunken City), Greg Keller (Uncle Vanya, The Seagull) and Brian Sgambati (Landscape of the Body, The Coast of Utopia) are featured in the play, which concerns "the changing face of the American family and the limits of love and cheesecake, as a hopeful young couple gives birth to a smudge."

Smudge has scenic design by Narelle Sissons, costumes by Clint Ramos, lighting by Russell Champa and sound by Asa Wember.

Axler earned an Emmy Award for her writing on "The Daily Show with John Stewart" and is currently a staff writer on NBC's "Parks & Recreation." Her play Archaeology premiered at the Kitchen earlier this year. She is at work on commissions for South Coast Rep and Lincoln Center Theater.
