Playwright Alan Ayckbourn, in accepting his Lifetime Achievement Tony, thanked Lynn Meadow of Manhattan Theatre Club and the Off-Broadway 59E59 Theatres.

In his acceptance speech he said someone asked him how this Tony felt different from the previous, competitive ones. "The difference," he said, is that "this is the first one I've ever won, so I have no idea. It's a pretty good start." He added that in years to come, "I hope the Tony committee will look favorably on my work.... If not, it's a hell of a way to finish."
