"The mission of SoHo Playhouse, Inc. is to bring the most stripped down and basic storytelling to the theatrical environment," said SoHo artistic director Darren Lee Cole in a statement.

The Old Man and the Old Moon by PigPen Theatre Co., a co-production of Britt Lafield and BKL Productions, will kick off the season Sept. 26 at the Gym at Judson (243 Thompson Street at Washington Square South).

The work tells "the tale of an old man who must abandon his duties of filling up the moon every month, to cross the seas in search of his missing wife. PigPen creates atmospheric theatrical fables with a unique blend of shadow puppetry, group movement, live music, and clever lighting effects." Opening night is set for Oct. 4; performances will continue through Nov. 25.

Following The Old Man and the Old Moon will be Brinkman's Ingenious Nature, which will begin performances Nov. 20, prior to an official opening Dec. 2, at the SoHo Playhouse. Written and performed by Brinkman, the work is directed by Darren Lee Cole and features music and turntablism by Mr. Simmonds.

Here's how Ingenious Nature is billed: "Alpha males get all the girls. Or is the definition of alpha changing faster than our genes can catch up, messing with evolution? If there's a new science of sexual choice, Darwin wrote the playbook…just try not to bring it up on a first date. Ingenious Nature is a new theatrical mix-tape from the creator of The Canterbury Tales Remixed and The Rap Guide to Evolution (2011 Drama Desk Award nominee)." Performances will continue through Jan. 6, 2013. Laurence's Hamlet In Bed, directed by Lisa Peterson, concludes the season in January 2013 at the SoHo Playhouse. Hamlet In Bed, according to SoHo Playhouse, "is a darkly comic and poignant story about mothers and sons. About what it means to live a life in the theatre, both a generation ago and now. And about families — the ones we're born into, and the ones we find along the way."

Here's how the work from Laurence, playwright and performer of the Drama Desk-nominated Krapp, 39, is described: "Michael is an actor and adoptee obsessed with two things - finding his real mother, and playing the famous Gloomy Dane. His twin fixations collide when he tracks down Anna, a reclusive former actress-cum-barfly whom he believes to be his actual birth-mother, and lures her into a noirish production of Hamlet playing the role of the queen, his mother. Rehearsals expose the complicated inner lives of each actor and bring them ever closer to the slippery truth of their relationship."
