April 26: Performances begin at Signature Theatre for the world premiere of Quiara Alegría Hudes’ Daphne’s Dive, helmed by Hamilton director Thomas Kail . Included in the cast are Rent star Daphne Rubin-Vega and Samira Wiley, who is known for her role as Poussey in Orange Is the New Black.

OPENING

April 21: Benjamin Walker stars as Patrick Bateman in the U.S. premiere of American Psycho , a new musical based on Bret Easton Ellis’ cult novel. Featuring music and lyrics by Tony and Grammy winner Duncan Sheik, the killer show officially opens on Broadway.

April 24: Sara Bareilles' Broadway musical Waitress officially opens starring Tony winner Jessie Mueller as a waitress and baker who longs to escape her abusive marriage. Watch how the show's pie consultant turns the Brooks Atkinson Theatre into a real bakery for every performance.

April 25: Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson returns to the Broadway stage in Fully Committed, in which he plays more than 40 characters. Read Playbill’s interview with the Emmy nominee here.

April 26: Tuck Everlasting, about a family incapable of aging, officially opens on Broadway. The new musical features Carolee Carmello, Andrew Keenan-Bolger, Michael Park, Sarah Charles Lewis and Robert Lenzi. Take an exclusive tour around the Broadhurst Theatre with the cast here.

April 27: Eugene O’Neill’s classic and unforgettable tale of the Tyrone family, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, returns to Broadway starring Jessica Lange and Gabriel Byrne. The Roundabout Theatre revival is directed by Jonathan Kent.

April 28: In May 1921, Shuffle Along, a new musical conceived by Flournoy Miller and Aubrey Lyles, with music and lyrics by Eubie Blake and Noble Sissle, became the unlikeliest of hits, significantly altering the face of Broadway. The 2016 production, Shuffle Along, or, The Making of the Musical Sensastion of 1921 and All That Followed, which draws on the original, officially opens on Broadway starring multi-Tony winner Audra McDonald.

May 1: Sparked by a real-life death at Benj Pasek's high school more than a decade ago, Dear Evan Hansen follows one student's struggle for identity. The musical features music and lyrics by the Tony and Emmy-nominated composing team of Pasek and Justin Paul ( Dogfight), with a book by Steven Levenson (Masters of Sex). May 1: Don't miss Tony winner Phylicia Rashad ( A Raisin in the Sun) in the Public Theater's acclaimed production of Tarell Alvin McCraney's Head of Passes, directed by Tina Landau. The new Off-Broadway drama is inspired by the Book of Job and explores family, acceptance and the power of faith.

April 21: Signature Theatre's Off-Broadway revival of Incident at Vichy, by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Arthur Miller, is broadcast on Thirteen as part of the second season of Theater Close-Up.

April 23-24: Andrew Lippa debuts his new concept opera, I Am Anne Hutchinson, starring Kristin Chenoweth, at the Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda, MD, just outside of Washington, DC.

April 25-26: The 30th Annual Easter Bonnet Competition, produced by and benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, takes place over two afternoons at the Minskoff Theatre. The two-day event, featuring Broadway favorites, celebrates six weeks of intensive fundraising efforts.
