You've heard of "The Great Big Book Of Lists?" Well, what about a book that lists all the major entertainment awards in one handy volume?
BackStage writer and editor has followed through on that idea with, The Big Book Of Show Business Awards, just published by Billboard Books.
"It contains all the major awards in film, music, television and theatre," says Sheward. "It's the only book I know of that has all this information in one place."
For theatre folks, the volume contains: Tony Awards (nominees & winners, going back to 1947); Drama Desk Awards, Outer Critics Circle, NY Drama Critics Circle, Pulitzer Prize and OBIE Awards, along with anecdotes, gossip, tidbits and trivia, as well as photos."
The 620-page paperback volume retails at $21.95. Sheward has arranged the book chronologically, "So if you want to compare the awards for a particular year you can see, for example, what the Drama Desk voted for as opposed to the Tonys." Sheward's last book, "It's A Hit!," about every long-running show (500-plus performances) on and Off-Broadway, is still available in stores as well.
Asked if the book would be updated when this season's awards roll around, Sheward said sales would determine whether Billboard would put out another edition.
