"Selected Shorts" is the award-winning, one-hour radio program from NPR, which features readings of classic and new short fiction by notable actors from stage and screen. Now in its 20th season, "Selected Shorts" is hosted by Isaiah Sheffer and produced by Symphony Space in New York City.

The first of the 7 PM readings on Nov. 12 will feature Baldwin and Lang reading stories from "The Believer," the monthly magazine from Ed Park and Heidi Julavits. Authors represented in the evening include Julia Slavin and Breece D'J Pancake.

Playwright Neil LaBute will offer "The Grand Illusion: Tales of American Couples" on Dec. 3 at 7 PM. The session will comprise three stories about relationships and LaBute's thoughts on creating characters for film, theatre, and the page.

Upcoming "Selected Shorts" include "Scary Stories for a Winter's Night with Joyce Carol Oates" (Jan. 21, 2009), "Writers in the Café" (Feb. 4, 2009), "Black Mask Mystery Magazine" (Feb. 18, 2009) and "Tales from the Great Epics" (March 4, 2009).
