Classic Arts News Ballet's Top Male Dancers Highlight Orange County Performing Arts Center's Dance Season The Orange County Performing Arts Center's 2005-06 International Dance Series will feature a program of world premieres performed by four leading male dancers.
The program, called Kings of the Dance and running February 16-19, 2006, features American Ballet Theatre's Ethan Stiefel and Angel Corella, the Royal Ballet's Johan Kobborg, and the Bolshoi Ballet's Nikolay Tsiskaridze. They will perform four world-premiere solo works created specifically for them by choreographers Stanton Welch, Tim Rushton, Nils Christe, and Roland Petit. All four will perform together in a new pas de quatre by Christopher Wheeldon, set to music by Schubert.

The schedule, announced this week by OCPAC, also includes an appearance in September by the National Ballet of China, which will perform the U.S. premiere of Raise the Red Lantern, a ballet based on the film and created by the film's director Zhang Yimou.

Ballet Flamenco Jos_ Porcel makes its OCPAC debut in October; the Kiev Ballet of the National Opera of Ukraine, also making its OCPAC debut, performs The Nutcracker in December; and ABT comes to the center in May with both Frederick Ashton's Sylvia and a mixed-repertory program.
