LOS ANGELES -- The ballyhoo about Ballyhoo was premature.
Plans for the national tour of the prize-winning The Last Night of Ballyhoo to visit the Wilshire Theatre in September have changed. The tour has been postponed and patrons of the Broadway/L.A. Play Series will see D.L. Coburn's The Gin Game instead, starring Julie Harris and Charles Durning. The dates are Sept. 8-19.
Directed by Charles Nelson Reilly, The Gin Game is produced by the National Actors Theatre, which was founded by artistic director Tony Randall to bring the world's classic theatre to a wide audience at affordable prices. The play's stop in Los Angeles is part of a 30-city national swing.
Famed actors Harris and Durning opened The Gin Game on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre on April 20, 1997, earning a long run and critical plaudits.
The Wilshire Theatre is in Beverly Hills. Tickets are not yet on sale.
