The new musical Bandstand, which officially opened April 26, celebrated 100 performances on Broadway at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre July 26.
The musical, directed and choreographed by Hamilton Tony winner Andy Blankenbuehler, uses an original swing score by Robert Taylor and Richard Oberacker to tell the story of Donny Novitski (Corey Cott), who assembles a band of fellow WWII veterans to enter a national radio contest searching for the next big band sensation. Along the way, he teams up with Julia (Laura Osnes), a young war widow who becomes the group’s lead singer.
Blankenbuehler also won the 2017 Best Choreography Tony Award for his work on Bandstand.
