PlayBlog Barack, Michelle, Palin and More Sing in Frankfurt Following the premieres of Obama On My Mind in London (with a subsequent Seattle production) and Obama: The Musical in Nairobi, a third show inspired by the 44th Commander in Chief has opened - this time in Germany, a country where President Obama is a particularly popular cultural figure.

Hope — The Obama Musical Story began performances at Frankfurt's Jahrhunderthalle Jan. 17. Produced by Roberto Emmanuele, the high-energy production (performed in English and German) features a pop-rock-soul-gospel-hip hop score by Randall Hutchins.

With a cast of 30 international artists, singers, dancers and actors, the show depicts "two moving and exciting stories in parallel plots. The audience looks behind the scenes of the presidential election in 2008 and follows the career of the present US president Barack Obama. At the same time, the viewer experiences the societal events from the point of view of a multi-cultural apartment-sharing community in Chicago. Caused by the prevailing tight political and economic situation, societal and social frictions and emotions arise. The people are given new hope by the new spirit of the age."

The powerhouse vocal ensemble is headed by Jimmie Wilson and Della Miles, known as the romantic duo at the center of the Michael Jackson-produced fairy tale Sisterella. German singer David Hanselmann plays John McCain, and American-born musical theatre performer Tracy Plester portrays both Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin. Other familiar faces in the cast are original Weather Girls lead singer Dynelle Rhodes, Love Newkirk of VH-1's "Groove" and Kevin Iszard of R&B group Format.
