Barbara Cook, who received critical hosannas and a Tony Award nomination for her performance in this season's Mostly Sondheim, will offer a master class on June 27.
The 2 PM class, entitled "A Barbara Cook Master Class: Songs by Richard Rodgers," will feature the Tony Award-winning Music Man star and her famed pianist Wally Harper. In a statement, Cook said, "The main thrust of what I do in these classes is attempt to have each person get in touch with his or her 'emotional well' so to speak. I want them not to 'perform' for us, but to have the courage to 'be' for us — to learn to trust whatever is unique in them."
The one-day-only event will be held at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Bruno Walter Auditorium, 40 Lincoln Center Plaza. For more information, call (212) 642-0142.
Cook will also perform her tribute to Stephen Sondheim from June 5 to June 16 and again from Aug. 14 to Aug. 18 at the Kennedy Center's Terrace Theatre. She will open a return engagement of Mostly Sondheim at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theater — playing Sunday and Monday evenings — from June 23 through Aug. 12 and again from Aug. 19 to Aug. 26.
