Cook previously appeared at the venue in 1997 in a gala event that marked her 70th birthday; last December, she did a gala concert at the London Coliseum to mark her 80th birthday. In the years in between, she has appeared regularly in London, at venues from the Donmar Warehouse to the Lyric, Shaftesbury Avenue and Theatre Royal, Haymarket. She has just begun a season of cabaret at New York's Carlyle Hotel (running to April 12). There will also be nightly special-guest appearances by dancers Friedemann Vogel from Stuttgart Ballet and Agnes Oaks and Thomas Edur from English National Ballet, while the Royal Ballet's Tamara Rojo will appear June 13, 14 (both performances) and 15, and the National Ballet of Canada's Guillaume Côté will appear at the same performances as Roja as well as from June 18-21.
Described in publicity materials as "a dazzling celebration of George Gershwin and the sparkling age of Hollywood music and dance," this in-the-round production will set songs like "Rhapsody in Blue" and "An American in Paris" to Derek Deane's choreography for over 100 dancers and musicians, to "recreate the razzmatazz of the big band era, featuring a journey in dance from ballroom to jazz, building to a breathtaking balletic finale."
